Holy Week Schedule

We hope you will join us for any or all of the services of Holy Week starting with Palm Sunday.

Palm Sunday service begins outside at 9 am, earlier than our regular services that start at 9:15 am.  This service remembers Jesus's entrance in Jerusalem and is celebrated with the blessing and distribution of palms. According to symbolism, Jesus rode to Jerusalem on a donkey, the symbol of peace rather than on a horse, the symbol of war. During this service the Gospel is read that sets the stage for Holy Week.

Vespers on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  A service of evening prayers at 6 pm.

Maundy Thursday, or Holy Thursday, commemorates Jesus' washing the feet of his disciples and the Last Supper. This service begins at 5:30 pm.

Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus at Calvary.  This service begins at 5:30 pm.

Easter Vigil Saturday night begins outside at sunset and is the first celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus.  An Easter fire is kindled and the Paschal Candle is blessed and lit.  This candle is used throughout the season of Easter.  We proclaim "The Light of Christ." This service begins at 7:30 pm.

Easter Day continues the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus in a joyful, traditional service.  This service begins at 9:15 am.

All Services are at Messiah Lutheran Church
