Kairos Prison Ministry

Newsletter file:

Dear Friends,

As you may know, I am blessed to volunteer with Kairos Prison Ministry, which reaches out to inmates in 18 men’s and women’s prisons located throughout Virginia. Kairos Prison Ministry is active in 35 states and 9 foreign countries.

I will be serving as a Team Member of Kairos #41 at Central Virginia Correctional Unit #13 (CVCU #13), a women’s prison located in Chesterfield County, VA. Our team will take the “light of Christ to those behind bars” on April 4-7, 2019.

This three and a half day event is a “Short Course in Christianity” presented by an team of lay people and clergy, ministering to as many as 30 inmates. The “Short Course” is an encounter with Jesus, emphasizing His love and forgiveness. We go back, following this event, with Instructional Workshops, two-day Retreats, and Monthly Reunions. One of our prison chaplains remarked, “Kairos is love in action. It is, by far, the most dynamic and effective program for changing the lives of incarcerated men and women I have ever seen.” Inmates have said, “I was lost...without hope...I never knew what real love is, but now I do...I found

Jesus Christ!” Team members refer to the Kairos Short Course as “a front row seat to a miracle”.

Kairos Team Members are blessed to have the opportunity to personally “visit the prisoner” (Matthew 28:31-46). Those who are not led or able to minister within the prison environment CAN, however, be a part of this ministry in the following way:

Financial contributions, in any amount, are needed and appreciated. The cost of each Kairos “Short Course” is about $4,500. Team members are asked to donate $100.00 toward the expense of the weekend. We must furnish supplies, such as paper, pens, markers, posters, prayer booklets, Bibles, and crosses, which are given to each resident who completes the program. Equipment, such as laptops, music equipment, speakers, microphones, and coffee makers are purchased and maintained by the team. Contributions from our churches and communities are needed to defray the remaining costs not covered by the team’s donations. Your generosity will be gratefully received and well used. All contributions are tax deductible under IRS Code 501c3. Please make your check payable to: Kairos of Virginia (memo line: CVCU) and send it to me at the address below. The members of our CVCU Kairos Team appreciate any support you may feel led to contribute to be a part of this incredible ministry!

May God richly bless you!
Please send to me no later than March 31, 2019. Deacon Karla
