Home Winterization

All Souls Winterizing Ministry

"I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

As one of our Outreach traditions, we winterize three homes in Hanover County each year. It is one of our favorite outreach projects. As Fall draws to an end and winter whispers of cold nights, we love making homes a little warmer by wrapping air conditioners, weather stripping doors and covering windows for those who struggle to complete the work themselves.  We are also known to rake leaves if asked and to clean out gutters if needed.

On a crisp November morning, our community begins the day by gathering for Morning Prayer.  After prayer and hearing scripture, we form teams to winterize the three homes assigned to us. Our Priest and volunteers enjoy getting to know the families.  It is an honor to care for our neighbors and to wish them a blessed Thanksgiving Day.  We believe that this event is important to our mission of serving Christ where we are.

We also collect food and donations to supply Thanksgiving Dinners for the families.  This ministry has become one of our favorite ways to reach into the community, serving where there is need, and making friends with those we serve.

Volunteers range in age from elementary school children to our "seasoned" adults, all having a wonderful time working together. Usually the Sunday before Thanksgiving, you are invited to help out.  We rejoice in getting to know and work alongside new folks!  Email or call our Church Office if you's like to be involved. ( allsoulsvaoffice@gmail.com )  All Are Welcomed.
